If you peel off the (perfectly transparent) protective covering The 'locket glass' is self-adhesive:

• If the locket still has its brass rim around the inside, do not peel off the protective covering, then it's easy to remove it should you wish to change the contents. 
• If the locket has lost its brass rim around the inside, then you do need to peel off the protective covering, since you must stick it in place.
